Downtown business looking for new owners as building sold to downtown developer Sam Meyer

A longtime downtown business owner looks to pass the baton on to a new owner while the building that business is in transfers ownership to one of Fond du Lac’s premiere historic building restorers.

Edith’s Bridal & Tuxedo Junction has been a cornerstone of Downtown Fond du Lac since 1937. Originally opened as a women’s clothing store by founder Edith, the shop evolved over the years to focus on bridal gowns, and later expanded to include tuxedo rentals.

In 1989, Edith’s great-nephew, Tom Deitte, took over ownership and, alongside his wife Cathy, have continued to lead the business with dedication and innovation, making Edith’s a regional destination for bridal, prom, first communion and special occasion dresses, as well as tuxedos for generations of Fond du Lac residents.

But now, ready to retire, Tom and Cathy are looking to hand off the business to a new owner.

Meanwhile, the historic building that houses Edith’s has been purchased by local developer Sam Meyer, known for his restorations and commitment to other downtown properties.

Meyer’s plans include maintaining the main floor as retail space, while transforming the upper floor into residential suites. The outside property, which connects to Meyer’s 18 Hands Ale Haus, will become an expanded biergarten for 18 Hands, allowing for room of a permanent stage for live acts.

Meyer says he welcomes the opportunity to work with the future owner of Edith’s Bridal to ensure its legacy continues as a key downtown commercial anchor.
