Driver Who Crashed Into Verizon Store Charged With Nine Felonies

The man charged with crashing his vehicle into the Verizon store on Rolling Meadows Drive in Fond du Lac last Thursday made his initial appearance in court today.

Benjamin Ayer of Oakfield is charged with nine class F felonies including; intoxicated use of a vehicle causing great bodily harm and eight counts of first degree reckless endangering safety.

Ayer is also charged with two misdemeanors; possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated causing injury – first offense.

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.

According to investigation into the crash, Ayer is alleged to have been huffing prior to crashing into the store. A cannister as well as a marijuana pipe, grinder, and a small amount of marijuana were located in the vehicle.

Toney said in a release, “The public has an expectation to be safe from other drivers operating motor vehicles, whether on our roadways, shopping, or in our homes. Anyone that shatters that sense of security for those in our community through criminal actions will be held accountable in our judicial system.”

Ayer faces over 60 years of initial prison confinement.

The State requested a $500,000 cash bond but the court set a cash bond at $300,000.

A preliminary Hearing is scheduled for May 12 at 2:00 pm.
