Drunk driver charged after hitting, killing horse in roadway

A 25-year-old Fort Atkinson man received a ticket for operating while intoxicated as he drove through Dodge County Monday, June 23, 2025 because he hit a horse that was in the roadway.

The incident occurred shortly before 4 am on State Highway 26 near County Highway A, about four miles south of the village of Juneau.

According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was also cited for driving without a valid license as well.

The horse died as a result of the crash however neither the driver of the vehicle nor his two passengers were injured.

The owner of the horse, a 60-year-old Juneau woman, will be receiving a citation for having the horse at large.
