Dry conditions persist through Monday with threat of wildland fire

Much of central Wisconsin, including Fond du Lac County is under a very high risk of wild fire danger today, Monday, April 15, 2024, according to the DNR. The very high risk ranks at number 4 out of 5 on the DNRs fire risk chart.

The National Weather Service says elevated fire weather conditions will persist across the region through today as mild temperatures and low relative humidity will continue, though they say rain will arrive on Tuesday which should bring a temporary end to the fire concerns.

Conditions are so dry that a suspected spark from a passing train set off a grass fire on Highway 151 near Hickory Road Saturday afternoon. Dozens of other wildland fires were reported throughout Wisconsin over the weekend.

Burning bans are in effect across many counties in central Wisconsin, but as of this time, Fond du Lac County is not under the ban, though strong caution is urged when doing any outdoor burning or activities that could throw a spark.
