EAA AirVenture grounds filling up ahead of convention

The EAA grounds in Oshkosh are already starting to fill up ahead of next week’s Airventure air convention.

For one week each summer, 500,000 aviation enthusiasts from 80 countries attend EAA AirVenture at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. Warbirds, vintage planes, homebuilts, ultralights and military aircraft will be on display throughout the week.

In addition to the aircraft IN the convention, thousands of attendees fly to the event in their planes, making Wittman Regional Airport the busiest airport in the world for the week, with multiple planes landing on the same runway at the same time. A system the air traffic controllers have perfected by having large colored circles on the runway. Instead of pilots being told to land on a particular runway, they are told to land on a particular colored dot. This allows multiple planes to land at once. A system that is needed, as at any given time, there will be hundreds of planes waiting in a line that will stretch down to Madison wanting to land.

The convention itself has retail booths, planes on display, teaching and informational workshops, and demonstrations, and each day is highlighted with an airshow with performers from around the world.

The 2024 Airventure runs from Monday the 22nd through Sunday the 28th.
