Earthquake hits northern Wisconsin

The U.S. Geological Survey has announced it recorded an earthquake measuring a magnitude 2.5 on the Richter scale in northern Wisconsin Sunday morning, January 7, 2024.

According to the department, the quake occurred at 7:05 AM about 2.5 miles north east of Mole Lake in Forest County.

According to a Earthquake Magnitude Scale on the Michigan Tech web site, 2.5 is at the lower end of the scale which says it can be felt but causes no damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey site says that so far 44 people reported feeling the quake.
