Expect Increased Military Air Traffic This Week

You may be hearing and seeing increased jet activity in the skies this week.

A 12-day-long military exercise kicks off today in Juneau County involving over 60 aircraft and 1,000 members of the US Military. The annual military event is called “Northern Lightning”, and is described as a tactical-level, joint training exercise replicating today’s air battle space with current and future weapons platforms.

Flying overhead will be some of the world’s most advanced aircraft including fifth generation aircraft like the F-35. The Wisconsin National Guard says aircraft will usually be flying between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily, and could include the counties of Fond du Lac, Dodge, Green Lake, Calumet, Marquette, Sheboygan and Winnebago.
