FDL Assistant Fire Chief Beer Honored With Proclamation
In some ways Wednesday night’s Fond du Lac City Council meeting looked like a Fire Department mutual aid call. The Council honored Assistant Chief Steve Beer for his 27 years and 2 months with the fire department. He’s leaving to become the Fire Chief in Hutchinson, Kansas. Fellow firefighters from throughout the County attended the meeting for the proclamation. Beer says he was stunned. He says when he walked down the hallway he thought he was going to his own funeral there were so many guys from other departments in the County at the meeting. He says he also saw the City’s own fire engine and ambulance outside. He says there was a time when there wasn’t so much cooperation between departments, but a lot of bridges have been built over the years. As for the City’s Fire Department Beer said without hesitation, it is the best in Wisconsin. Beer’s last day with the City is Friday.
