FDL Pick N Saves Kick Off Donations For Trooper Casper Memorial
Customers at the two Pick ‘n Save stores in Fond du Lac can donate $1 at the cash register from Saturday, Nov. 12 through Saturday, Nov. 26 as a contribution toward building a memorial for Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Trevor Casper, who died in the line of duty in Fond du Lac in March 2015.
Off-duty volunteers from the State Patrol will assist with bagging and carrying groceries to customers’ vehicles in appreciation of the support for the Trooper Casper Memorial.
The Pick ‘n Save store at 760 West Johnson Street (Berger Parkway) is near the location where Trooper Casper was shot and killed. A park bench with a plaque will be dedicated in his honor where he sacrificed his life on March 25, 2015, while exchanging gunfire with a suspect from a bank robbery and murder earlier that day. Though wounded, Trooper Casper was able to return fire and kill the suspect before succumbing to his fatal injuries.
“There has been a growing interest for a permanent memorial at the site where a temporary memorial site is still receiving items,” says State Patrol Captain Tony Burrell of the Fond du Lac Post. “The Casper family is very appreciative and supportive of this fundraiser sponsored by Pick ‘n Save to create a memorial in Trevor’s honor.”
In addition to the Pick ‘n Save on West Johnson Street, another store is located at 55 West Pioneer Road. Both locations are accepting donations.
