Festival Foods sold to Midwest company Schnuck Markets

The Wisconsin based grocery store Festival Foods has announced they will be changing owners as current owners, Skogen’s Festival Foods have sold the chain to Schnuck Markets, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri, which, after the acquiring of Festival, will operate under the name The 1939 Group Inc. A nod to the year that Schnuck Markets was introduced.

Festival Foods operates 42 full-service supermarkets across Wisconsin while Schnucks operates 113 stores, serving customers in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.

Upon completion of the purchase, each store will maintain their existing corporate headquarters and operate as separate, sister companies with shared support by the 1939 Group.

Outgoing CEO of Festival Foods Mark Skogen said “It’s been a privilege to serve Wisconsin communities and continue the legacy my grandparents began in 1946. With Schnucks’ shared commitment to nourishing lives, this transition will help expand our impact and continue our tradition of community support across the Midwest.”

The finalization of the sale is said to take place later in October, subject to customary review and approval.
