Fire damages garage in rural Oakfield

Fire departments in Fond du Lac County made a stop to a garage fire last night, keeping fire damage to the attached house to a minimum.

At about 10:40 last night the Oakfield, Lamartine and Town of Fond du Lac Fire Departments responded to the fire at the dead end of Briar Court, north east of Oakfield.
A Fond du Lac Sheriff’s officer was first on the scene and found smoke coming from all four sides of the garage and the siding starting to melt.

Within a half hour of the Oakfield Fire Department getting there, they said they had the fire out and were working on overhaul, saying the fire was contained to the garage.

Police say all of the home’s occupants as well as pets were able to make it out of the house prior to emergency responders arrival. A vehicle and riding lawn mower in the garage also sustained damage, but the living quarters of the house only sustained minor amounts of smoke damage.

The fire is thought to be linked to a hover board that was being charged in the garage at the time.
