Fire damages Kewaskum area home

A fire in a house near Kewaskum has displaced several people.

Yesterday, just before 11:30 AM a resident at 3404 Hwy 28, just east of the village of Kewaskum said she heard a pop in the kitchen and found fire when she went to investigate. The woman, along with a child and an upstairs tenant were able to self extricate while the Kewaskum Fire Department was on the way.

Upon arrival crews were met with thick black smoke coming from the front door. Initial firefighters knocked the fire down while others entered the house to search for two dogs reported to be still inside. The dogs were found unharmed in a bedroom.

Portions of the home have significant damage as a result of the fire and the Red Cross is assisting the occupants.

The Kewaskum Fire Department was assisted during the incident by the West Bend, Boltonville, Campbellsport, Jackson, and Kohlsville Fire Departments. Highway 28 was closed for about an hour while crews worked the scene.
