Fire Destroys Building at Business in the Town of Auburn

A building at a business in the Fond du Lac County Town of Auburn is a total loss after a fire Friday night.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies along with the Kewaskum Fire Department were called to Kewaskum Auto Recyclers on County Highway V in the Town of Auburn just before 7:30 Friday evening for a report of a structure fire.

A news release says there are multiple buildings at the address, one of which was fully engulfed by fire when first responders arrived on scene.

One of the owners of the business told deputies he was using a blow torch to remove portions of a vehicle inside one of the buildings. He had left for a period of time, and returned to find heavy smoke coming from the building. The owner tried to use a fire extinguisher, but was unable to gain access to the building because of the smoke.

The fire also caused moderate damage to a second building on the property. Investigators say the fire is not suspicious in nature. No one was injured in the fire.

Also assisting at the scene were fire departments from Campbellsport, Beechwood, Boltonville, Kohlsville, Eden, Fillmore and Jackson RIT, in addition to the Fond du Lac County Highway Department and the Town of Auburn.
