Fire Destroys House Near Belgium
For the second day in a row, a fire call in southeast Wisconsin resulted in a huge response to a fire. This time near the northern Ozaukee village of Belgium.
Around 2 PM yesterday, the Belgium Fire Department was called to a detached garage fire in the 200 block of hidden bluff road.
Before responding units were got to the address, the fire had spread to the house.
Due to the size of the house, and location, a MABAS call went out calling in departments from surrounding counties.
Because the house was located in a rural area, firefighters had no access to fire hydrants so about a dozen water trucks were called in to assist. This led to an even larger response because water trucks from even farther out were then paged to stand by in Ozaukee County incase they were needed at another fire.
In total, 15 fire departments sent equipment and manpower to the scene.
The house and garage are considered a total loss. No injuries were reported in the blaze.
Sunday, dozens of fire departments responded to a huge mulch fire at a Slinger area wood working business. The Slinger Fire Department says 40 departments were called to
assist them with firefighting efforts. An estimated 1.7 million gallans of water was used on that fire.
