Fire destroys rural Eden shed and equipment

Several Fond du Lac County fire departments as well as Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a shed on fire Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in the central part of the county.

At around 5:15 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call from a passerby reporting smoke billowing from a machine shed located at W2972 Highway 45 in the Town of Eden.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found a 20-foot by 60-foot metal shed emitting heavy smoke with heavy fire inside. Due to the severity of the fire and the potential threat to a nearby barn, additional emergency resources were requested.

The fire was brought under control with no extension to the barn, however, the shed and multiple pieces of machinery located inside sustained significant damage.

Preliminary investigation indicates the fire was likely caused by the malfunction of a wood burner.

Highway 45 was closed while fire crews worked the scene.
