Fire displaces family out of Fond du Lac apartment complex
The Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue department responded to a fire yesterday in an apartment building in the city.
at around 5:40 p.m., a fire was reported at the Brooke Street Loft Apartments at 16 N. Brooke Street. While en route, Fond du Lac County Communications advised responding units that a child might still be inside the affected apartment.
Upon arrival, firefighters initiated an immediate rescue operation and entered the building to search for the child. Despite heavy smoke conditions, crews were able to conduct a rapid and thorough search of the apartment, ultimately confirming it was unoccupied. The child was later located safe elsewhere within the building.
Investigation showed the fire originated in the kitchen area of the apartment and was quickly brought under control. The affected apartment sustained fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage throughout, and is currently uninhabitable. Residents of the building evacuated during the incident, and a significant portion of the structure required ventilation due to smoke.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Fire Investigators.
