Flock camera credited for heads up of stolen vehicle in area

The Flock camera system gets credit for helping to catch another bad guy Monday, May 13, 2024 after it alerted City of Fond du Lac Police of a stolen vehicle in the city.

At 5:30 PM, officers squad computers showed that a flock camera on the west side of the City of Fond du Lac registered a license plate that was added to the Flock system to be on the lookout for. When an officer ran the plate, it came back stolen.

Knowing the vehicle was headed into the city, officers saturated the area. Minutes later an officer spotted the vehicle headed east over the bridge on Johnson Street going over the Fond du Lac River. As other officers moved in, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled in an attempt to elude. For the public’s safety, the officer chose not to pursue but continued to follow in the direction the vehicle was last seen which was south on Park from Johnson Street.

As the officer proceeded, he noticed the stolen car parked on Ledgeview Avenue with a man in a hoodie walking away from it.

The man was taken into custody without further incident.

The stolen vehicle was a Hyundai Elantra and if you remember, a story we have been tracking over the last few months was about the ease that Hyundais and Kias could be stolen. It’s unknown if this vehicle was stolen in the same manner that hundreds of these types of cars have been stolen around the country.
