Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Officers Credited In Saving Suicidal Man

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy is credited with talking a suicidal man out of his plans of hanging himself near Fond du Lac Thursday, May 25, 2023.

Around 8:30 PM, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a call from a female saying her fiancé was threatening to hang himself off a bridge on the Wild Goose Trail near River Road, southwest of the City of Fond du Lac.

Officers made their way down the trail and found the man down on a bridge ledge, about 15 feet above some rocks near the Fond du Lac River. The officer stated that the man had the rope around his neck.

After a short amount of negotiating with the man, the officer talked him into taking the rope off from his neck and come up, but the man was unable to climb back up off the ledge.

The Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department was called to assist in rescuing the man up off the ledge which they did at about 9:15. The City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and Town
of Fond du Lac First Responders also assisted on the call.
