Fond du Lac County Shop With A Cop Raises Record $40,000

Dozens of area law enforcement converged at Walmart in Fond du Lac Thursday, December 8, 2022 but it wasn’t to respond to a crime in progress. Rather it was for a great cause.

The 2022 Shop With A Cop event took place at 5:30 PM and this year the event had a record $40,000 in donated funds to work with.

14 different agencies were on hand to help 65 kids rummage through the store looking for their perfect gifts.

Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt the Shop With A Cop program is important because it gives kids that may have had a bad experience with law enforcement due to a family emergency or other incident, a chance to counter that with a fun experience with police.

In addition to law enforcement agencies such as Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, and Waupun police departments, criminal justice organizations such as probation and parole, the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office and the Fond du Lac County Communications Center took part in the
event.

Funds are collected throughout the year from area businesses and private donors.

Any money not used this year stays in the program and gets carried over to next years event.
