Fond du Lac High School looking at new AI camera technology

The Fond du Lac School District held a press conference yesterday to showcase the need to create more secure entrances to the school. A need that would be paid for with part of the funds to potentially be acquired if a referendum for the school passes in the spring general election on April 1st.

Incoming school superintendent Matt Steinbarth said the new system would be crucial for student safety.

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney, who also spoke at the press conference, said he was the one that introduced the new technology to the school after learning how the AI camera system could help detect threats such as firearms and other violence that could be used to give law enforcement a heads up of these situations. Toney says the new technology would need to be proven to work at the high school before it would be implemented district wide to other schools.

The cost of the system would run just over $4 million which would be a little more that 10% of the $40 million the school is asking for in the April first referendum.
