Fond du Lac man pleads guilty for Oshkosh 2025 murder
The 20-year-old Fond du Lac man charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide for a fatal 2025 stabbing in Oshkosh pleaded guilty in a Winnebago County court Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Daunte Riley was initially charged with 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide; however, Riley’s guilty plea was for a reduced 1st-Degree Reckless Homicide charge.
Riley is accused of killing 27-year-old Walter Brooks on the night of July 5th in Menominee Park in Oshkosh after a reported fight broke out.
After investigating the crime scene, a suspect vehicle was noted and that vehicle was seen entering Fond du Lac around midnight that night. Police in Fond du Lac familiar with the registered owner went to an address on east Johnson Street where the vehicle was known to be, and found it parked there. Police and sheriff’s deputies surrounded the house until Oshkosh authorities could arrive to question Riley. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged.
Riley’s sentencing is scheduled for May 7.
