Fond du Lac man who shot another gets 15 years in prison

A Fond du Lac man was sentenced yesterday to 15 years of initial prison confinement and 10 years of extended supervision for an October 20th, 2024 shooting that occurred in the City of Fond du Lac.

Luis Guzman Romero was convicted of 11 counts in early January including First Degree Reckless Injury, Aggravated Battery, four counts of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Disorderly Conduct, two counts of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, and two counts of Criminal Damage to Property.

The charges stem from an incident in 2024 when then 52-year-old Romero had an interaction with another man in the Hoppers Printing parking lot on North Main Street.

During the interaction, Romero pulled a gun on the man and a struggle for the gun ensued. Eventually the man lost his grip on Romero and Romero fired the gun, striking the man.

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue tended to the victim and he was ultimately flown by ThedaStar Medical Helicopter to a level one trauma center.

Fond du Lac Police detectives processed the scene and identified Romero as a person of interest. Later that day, Romero was located leaving his residence and taken into custody.

Police executed a search warrant on his house and vehicle where evidence of the shooting was located.
