Fond du Lac Morning Rotary Provides Books For Backpacks

Fond du Lac Morning Rotary and Fond du Lac Evening Satellite Rotary distributed 1,500 books to area students through its Books for Backpacks program during the Back
to School event at the Fond du Lac Boys and Girls Club / YMCA on Saturday, August 19.

Each students was able to select a book to take home. They also received a backpack and school supplies from Back to School.

More than 20 volunteers participated in the Books for Backpacks project contributing over 61 hours of service. Fond du Lac Morning Rotary Club received assistance from
volunteers from FDL Literacy Services, Open Circle UU Fellowship and the Fondy Food Pantry.

Books were selected for reading levels Pre-K through 8th Grade and purchased by Morning Rotary from Scholastic. Volunteers sorted books by reading levels and
inserted book plates. They moved materials from storage to the distribution site, set up all displays, signage, etc. During the event at the Fond du Lac Boys & Girls Club /
YMCA, volunteers maintained displays and assisted students and parents in selecting books.

The purpose of the Books for Backpacks program is to encourage reading and literacy by providing books to children. Literacy and Basic Education is one of seven focus areas of The Rotary Foundation and a major focus of Fond du Lac Morning Rotary. The goal is to strengthen basic education and literacy.
