Fond du Lac Police ask community to not jump to judgment in child’s death before investigation is complete

A group of about two dozen protesters gathered on north Main Street Thursday, September 18, 2025, in the area of Johnson street to protest a death investigation being conducted by the Fond du Lac Police Department.
Around 5 p.m. the group, holding signs that had messages regarding a two-year-old that was found deceased in the care of a babysitter Saturday, congregated in front of the Fond du Lac Police Department before moving slightly north to the intersection of Main and Johnson Streets.
It was here that about 10 of them started to get unruly by blocking north Main Street. Fond du Lac police were quick on the scene to move them off the roadway where they continued to chant justice for Maliky and no justice, no peace.
According to the mother of the boy that died, she is not happy with how police are handling the case and thinks the babysitter involved should be looked at as the reason her infant died.
After some time at the intersection, the group moved north to a business in the 200 block of north Main Street where, per reports on the scanner, the group were pounding on the businesses windows and some were climbing on a car parked outside.
Police again responded and closed the block to traffic while pushing the group across the street from the business.
After about 20 minutes, the protesters headed back to Johnson street before dispersing.
Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein told KFIZ, “The loss of a child is an unimaginable tragedy, and our hearts go out to the mother, the family, and all who are grieving during this incredibly difficult time. As a department, we are committed to uncovering the truth with compassion, professionalism, and urgency.
From the moment we were called, our Detectives have been working tirelessly conducting interviews, gathering evidence, and pursuing all possible leads. At this time, preliminary findings have not indicated anything suspicious in nature, but out of respect for the seriousness of this loss, we are undergoing extensive forensic testing to ensure every aspect is fully and carefully examined. This process takes time, but time is what ensures accuracy, accountability, and justice.
We understand the mother’s grief and frustration, and we fully support her right to peacefully protest and be heard. Her pain is real, and we do not take it lightly. Our Detective has remained in close, ongoing contact with her, providing updates and answering questions with transparency and care.
As this investigation continues, I urge our community to allow the process to unfold without rushing to judgment. Misinformation and accusations, however well-intended, can compromise the integrity of the investigation and deepen the pain of those involved.
Our commitment is simple, to honor this child’s life by seeking the truth through evidence, not assumptions. Justice demands nothing less, and that is exactly what we will pursue.”
