The Fond du Lac Police Department are investigating what may have been a smash and grab burglary last night at Fleet Farm on Pioneer Road on the cities south west side.
Shortly before 9 PM, police were called to the store for a report of motion detector alarms going off in the store.
Upon arrival, officers found a door had been busted open and a perimeter was set up around the building incase the suspect was still inside.
Officers were able to access the stores closed circuit camera system and saw the suspect used an axe to smash the door, got inside and was seen grabbing guns from the hunting area.
Still unsure if the suspect was still on the scene, police brought in the tactical gear including their armored vehicle, referred to as the bearcat as well as Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s bearcat.
A drone was sent into the building to look around and eventually police, and by midnight the building had been cleared with no sign of anyone still on scene.
Police are looking for a white male suspect driving a vehicle matching or similar to a light colored Pontiac Aztec.
The man took guns and several boxes of ammunition.
Due to the length of time it took officers to clear the building, police from other municipalities were called in to help with calls in the city.
