Fond du Lac Police offering “Ring Neighbors” platform, incorporating Ring Cameras as means to stay informed

The Fond du Lac Police Department is giving residents another way to stay informed about what’s happening in their neighborhoods.

The department is now participating in Ring Neighbors, a free community platform that allows residents to receive public safety alerts and voluntarily share information that could help police investigations.

Police say residents have already provided surveillance video that has helped identify suspects and solve crimes.

The department emphasizes that participation is voluntary — and police do not have access to residents’ private cameras or recordings.

You don’t even need to own a Ring camera to participate.

The department says the goal is to strengthen the partnership between residents, businesses and police and provide another way for people to look out for one another.

The idea has faced backlash on social media however as some residence say it’s just another means of government overreach into the public’s privacy using cameras.
