Fond du Lac trees aged 1 to 200 years old are taken care of by City of Fond du Lac arborists
The City of Fond du Lac holds a long-standing designation as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing the city’s commitment to growing and nurturing its urban forest, and recently crews could be seen planting another two dozen trees in the city.
This most recent round of planting was said to be a replacement planting for a group of trees that didn’t take when planted last year on certain streets that were worked on in the city. The newly constructed streets needed to have the existing trees that were in place, removed for the work to be done, and the city replanted the new trees in the terrace, once that work was done.

City of Fond du Lac Arborist Brian Weed says about 60 new trees planted in the last two years failed due to some certain weather conditions, and this latest round of planting was to replace those trees that had died.
One such street where these new trees can be seen is Ledgeview Avenue between Park Ave and Amory Street.
The city’s forestry division successfully maintains thousands of street and park trees while employing certified arborists.
Weed says along with the new plantings, trees of all ages are seen throughout the city with some of the oldest dating back to around the time frame of the Civil War with the Sycamore tree in the 100 block of Military Road likely being the oldest tree in the city’s care.

Weed also says some of the Cottonwoods in Lakeside Park also date back to over 150 years old.

The City of Fond du Lac has qualified as a Tree City USA for the last 38 years and Weed says the amount of trees and the care that gets put into them helps to make the city a lot more attractive.
