Former Manitowoc Sheriff’s Office officer charged with misconduct in office

A former Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office LT. is being charged with misconduct in office after money from a drug investigation wasn’t properly deposited into designated accounts.

The charge stems from an internal audit conducted in February of this year, which revealed that several thousand dollars of asset forfeiture funds were missing. Following the audit, the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office immediately requested the Wisconsin Department of Justice to investigate.

Because of a conflict of interest, The Brown County District Attorney’s Office has issued a criminal complaint against David Remiker, who was also on the Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit with the sheriff’s office.

Remiker retired from the Sheriff’s Office on January 31 of this year.

Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig extends his gratitude to the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Brown County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance and professionalism throughout the investigation saying This charge reflects solely on the actions of one individual and does not represent the 113 dedicated and hardworking members of the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.

Remiker is due in court for his initial appearance December 12th.
