Free Boat Safety Check In FDL Saturday

As part of National Safe Boating Week, which kicks off Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in Fond du Lac will be offering free vessel safety checks. James Haase of the Flotilla says the first is coming up Saturday at Tuffy’s Outpost from 1 to 4 p.m. He says they will let you know what you need to have and you get a decal when you pass inspection. He says the decal you get let’s DNR and law enforcement officials know when they see it that you are a safer boater. He says there are things you need to have on your boat. He says that includes fire extinguishers, and for federal waters distress signals and a state requirement is that your battery and its connections are covered to prevent fire. He says you also need life jackets and should make sure your registration and numbering on your boats are done properly. If you can’t make it to Saturday’s safety check additional checks will be held at the Lakeside Park West Boat Landing on Saturday, June 3rd and the Marina Boat Landing on Saturday, June 24th. Times for those safety checks are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can also go to www.cgaux.org and request an inspection for a time that is convenient to your scheduled.
