FVTC Expanding Public Safety Classes To Accommodate Increase In Demand
Fox Valley Technical College is adding a fourth law enforcement recruit academy to account for an increase in demand in public safety classes.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, last year the state saw a record-low number of police officers on the job but that trend has reversed it seems.
Part of the reasoning for this is thought to be because instead of paying for their own training, many law enforcement departments are now paying the bill for recruits.
In the past, most students paid for their own training and hoped to land a job while at the academy or soon after. Now most of the spots are sponsored by local law
enforcement agencies, sending their own recruits to train at the academy.
Since February of 2021, the City of Fond du Lac has hired 21 new officers.
