Green Bay school students required to have clear backpacks after gun incident

The Green Bay Area Public School District is starting a new security measure starting today, following an incident earlier this month where a student was found to have a gun at Preble High School.
This new rule requires all middle and high school students to use clear backpacks on while on school grounds during school hours. District officials say the goal is to increase visibility of what students bring to school and discourage any unsafe behavior.
Also taking affect, the district is implementing stricter consequences for students involved in fighting or possessing weapons. Students caught in these activities will be removed from school property and given a multi-day suspension, including all after school events.
When suspended students return, they’ll have a week-long transition period with strict supervision, limited privileges, and daily check-ins. This transition period will start and end with a re-entry meeting with parents.
