Green Lake Co. Sheriff’s Office Responds to Three Calls Wednesday on Big Green Lake

It was a busy Wednesday for the Green Lake County Sheriff’s
Office, who responded to three calls on Big Green Lake.

Around 10:15 Wednesday morning, the county’s 9-1-1 center
took a call about scuba divers in trouble north of the Horner Road boat
landing. First responders arrived to find the divers were safe. Reports say a
fishing boat had pulled down a rigger weight and hooked a diver, which caused
the concern. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Around 3:30 pm, dispatchers received another call that a
boat had tipped over and that a man was in distress. That call came from the
southwest part of the lake near County Highway K and Dodge Memorial Park. A
news release says someone nearby in a pontoon boat was able to get the man out
of the water. No injuries were reported in that incident

Lastly, around 4:30 pm, first responders were called to
help a scuba diver near Emerald Shores. The diver reported being underwater for
about an hour when he resurfaced to find the boat he dove from was gone. The
man was rescued from the water, with the boat eventually located on the north
shore of the lake. It’s believed the wind picked up and the anchoring of the
boat was lost, which caused the boat to float over a half-mile until the anchor
was able to touch the bottom of the lake again. No injuries were reported in
that final incident.
