Ground breaking set for Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County home build

Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. at 467 Walker Street in Fond du Lac for the future home of the Buechel family.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, Ecumenical Christian housing ministry whose purpose is to build homes with families that meet certain criteria, and then sell the homes to the family at no interest for no profit. Qualified and approved candidates must perform up to 300 hours of “sweat equity”, which can include helping build the home.

Partner families purchase the homes through a specialized, affordable mortgage program after demonstrating the need for affordable housing and showing an ability to pay for the home. Home buyers are also required to attend classes on budgeting, financial management, mortgage payments, and home maintenance.

This will be the Fond du Lac Chapter’s 36th house build, after starting the process in 1998 when they built two homes in Fond du Lac.

Habitat for Humanity homes are constructed through volunteers. The organization says any individual or group interested in volunteering should contact the Fond du Lac affiliate at info@habitatfdl.org or call 920.921.6623.
