Gun Deer Totals Down But Not In FDL County
Hunters killed 7 percent fewer deer during the gun-deer season than they did during the 2012 hunt. That’s according to figures released from the state’s Department of Natural Resources, which says according to preliminary harvest totals 226,582 deer were taken during the season. Fond du Lac County hunters were more successful with 3,008 deer harvested during the season compared to 2,467 in 2012. Totals were also up in Calumet, Dodge, Sheboygan and Winnebago Counties, but down slightly in Green Lake County. It was also a relatively safe hunt with no fatalities among the 8 hunting accidents that were reported. The 10 year average for hunting accidents during the season is 9.
