Heat causes issues with pavement buckles on area highways

Hot temperatures caused pavement to buckle on major roads all over north east Wisconsin including Fond du Lac County Monday, June 17, 2024.

The northbound lanes of Highway 151 near Highway D was closed for several hours while crews repaired the damage of a pavement buckle there.

In Winnebago County, pavement buckles were reported on 41 near Highways 21 and 45, and the heat is also being blamed for some issues with a failing joint on the southbound I-41 approach to the Lake Butte des Morts bridge. The Wisconsin Department Of Transportation says high heat is causing the joint to expand and southbound lanes at the bridge near Oshkosh will be closed today to repair the damage.

I-41 also had issues in Brown County near Schuring Road where the concrete also buckled.

With forecasted temperatures in the 90s again today, it’s anticipated there will be more problems. The Wisconsin DOT urges travelers to be aware of the possibility of damaged roadways by paying close attention to the road, and also watch for slowing traffic in front of you that may be encountering a road buckle.
