House burns as suspect keeps police at bay near Campbellsport

Law enforcement in Fond du Lac County were called to a situation near Campbellsport this morning.

Initially, around 4:20 a.m., a report of a house on fire came in on Century Drive, about two miles south of Campbellsport.

Officers responding to the address were aware of a history with the homeowner who was known to make threats to officers and first responders, so the decision was made to have all fire apparatus stage away from the house until officers could secure the scene.

On scene officers saw what appeared to be a gun in the home owners hand and he stated he wanted officers to shoot him.

At 4:58 a.m. officers were able to take the man into custody and nearly 35 minutes after being paged, firefighters were able to proceed to the fire scene.

The house was reported to be a total loss.

The homeowner was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries related to the fire. One cat is safe, another is unaccounted for. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
