Inmate Found Dead With Severe Head Injury At Taycheedah Correctional Institution

An inmate at the Taycheedah Correctional Institution was found dead in her cell Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Fond du Lac Fire Rescue was called to the all woman’s prison on Highway K just north east of the City of Fond du Lac at 5:52 PM yesterday for a report of a 68-year-old female that was not breathing, and also had severe head trauma and cuts. Sources close to the incident say the woman was beaten to death by a cellmate.

Cindy Schulz-Juedes was convicted for the 2006 death of her husband in Marathon County. She was serving a life sentence when she died Wednesday, but maintained her innocence and was in the process of appealing her conviction.

Authorities are not saying how Schulz-Jueded received the fatal wounds but are saying they continue to investigate the circumstances of the death saying in a statement, “The investigation is in its preliminary stages and remains an active investigation. No additional details are available at this time.”

Taycheedah Correctional opened in 1921. It has a maximum capacity of 752 inmates, but like most prisons, it is running over capacity. According to Wikipedia, the facility was averaging around 936 inmates as of 2019.
