Investigation Into Deputy Involved Shooting Continues

State Department of Justice officials have released the name of the Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy involved in a ‘suicide by cop’ incident in Beaver Dam on August 5th. Deputy Joseph Nicholas used lethal force at the Spring Lake Apartments after 59-year-old James Quealy fired a shot at deputies. Quealy had threatened suicide to friends and during the incident told officers he wished to end his life through suicide-by-cop. Nicholas returned Quealy’s fire killing him. The Department of Criminal Investigation is continuing its investigation into the shooting and will forward its findings to the Dodge County District Attorney. Nicholas is on administrative leave.
