Investigation Underway In Dodge County Train Derailment

Investigation is underway to determine what caused a Canadian Pacific train to derail Tuesday afternoon near the village of Reeseville in Dodge County.

Just before 2 PM, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a call that between 25 and 30 cars of the train had come off the tracks.

According to the sheriff’s office, no one was injured and none of the cars were carrying any hazardous materials.

In a press conference, Sheriff Dale Schmidt said nobody’s in any danger, the department has everything under control, adding the most inconvenient part of this for the public is you can’t drive through Reeseville right now. A problem that has since been remedied.

According to firefighters on scene, the cars were carrying grain and potash. Very few of the cars appeared to tip over. They all buckled sideways, bunching up side by side against each other.

It was also reported that the passenger train service Amtrak uses the tracks involved so some passenger travel will be affected until the train can be cleared and the tracks
repaired. No timeline has been announced as to how long that may take.
