JC Penney in Fox River Mall being sold. Will stay JC Penney… for now

JC Penney’s days in the Fox River Mall may be numbered. This is due to the company selling 119 of their stores, including the Grand Chute one, to Onyx Partners, who will take ownership of the properties as early as September 8.

Onyx Partners announced they plan to keep all of those stores running as JC Penney, and JC Penney says the sales are part of a restructuring the company is facing amid ongoing challenges in the retail sector.

After the sale, JC Penny will still operate nine stores in Wisconsin, including several in the Milwaukee metro area, Madison, La Crosse, Eau Claire and Ashwaubenon.

JCPenney was founded in 1902 as a dry goods store in Kemmerer, Wyoming. At it’s peak in 1973, there were 2,053 stores. Today that number has shrunk to 650.
