Jorgensen to Step Down as Head Coach of the Cardinals
Fond du Lac High School will have a new head football coach in the fall. Athletic Director Dave Michalkiewicz confirmed to us that Steve Jorgensen will be stepping down as head coach of the Cardinals. Players, parents and coaches were informed of the move last week. Jorgensen said in a statement that he feels “the time was right moving forward to have a long-term face of the program.” Michalkiewicz says The school is working to retain the coaching staff – which would include Jorgensen staying on as an assistant. He will also remain as a teacher at the high school. Jorgensen led the Cardinals to a 12-1 record last season – which ended with a loss to Kimberly in the State Semifinals. He was named the head coach last March to replace Mike Gnewuch, who left to take the head coaching position at Mukwonago High School. Jorgensen was associate head coach under Gnewuch, and previously served as head coach at Oshkosh North and Kimberly, leading both schools to state titles.
