Kaul Declares Victory, Schimel Holds Off on Concession for Now

Democratic challenger Josh Kaul is declaring victory in the
race for Wisconsin Attorney General. Early this morning – it was too close to
call, as he led incumbent Republican Brad Schimel by just 22,900 total votes.

The race was tight all of Tuesday night, as Schimel held a lead until 46,000
early and mail-in ballots were counted in Milwaukee County.
Many of those votes backed democrats, pushing Kaul into the lead.

Schimel
released a statement this morning – saying he spoke with Kaul, and that while
the results are not final – it appears he won the race. Schimel says he is
waiting until municipal and county canvasses are complete, and every vote is
counted – and also wants to know more about the late surge from Milwaukee County. He adds that if the margin does
not substantially change, that his team will assist Kaul in making the
transition as smooth as possible.
