KFIZ High School Football Preview (Week 3)

Thursday Night

Appleton North at Fond du Lac

Fond du Lac (0-2, 0-0) opens up Fox Valley Association Conference play after two non-conference losses to Sussex Hamilton and Franklin two top 10 ranked teams in the state. Fond du Lac,s defense showed improvement last week but still struggled against the opposing teams pass game. Fond du Lac QB Connor Klapperich led the attack on the ground for the Cardinals carrying the ball 22 times for 130 yards and Fond du Lac’s only TD of the game. Appleton North (2-0, 0-0) won there two non-conference games with wins over Green Bay Southwest (45-7) and Green Bay Preble (42-6). North’s quarterback Luke Kritzer has thrown 6 TD’s already this season, 3 of those touchdowns to WR Caden Prince. The North running game has been spread out to 4 players led by leading rusher Jack Robinson averaging 81 yards/game.

Non-Conference 8-Player

Oakfield at Wonewoc/Weston

Oakfield won there first week matchup last Friday with a 22-20 win over Wisconsin Heights. Running Back Hunter Sabel had 91 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Bailey Schepp was 12-14 with 196 yards and a touchdown. Wonewoc/Weston had an impressive week 1 win 74-0 over Menominee Indian.

Flyway Conference

Omro at Fond du Lac Springs

St. Mary’s Springs Academy (2-0, 0-0) has been dominate on defense through the first non-conference games this season allowing only 3 points total. They shutout Lake Country Lutheran in week 1 and beat Madison Edgewood Friday night at Fruth Field 28-3. J.T. Koenigs with a solid start out of the backfield on offense averaging 91 yards a carry through the first two games. QB Max Bauer has also been effected on the ground in the spread offense. Omro (1-1, 0-0) had two different results through non-conference. They opened up with a dominating 42-0 shutout victory to Valders in week 1. They could not follow up that solid performance in week 2 though in a rivalry game they fell to Winneconne 49-7. Omro’s strength on offense is the running game Lucas Kasuboski is the leader in that group averaging nearly 10 yards a carry and 79 yards per game. Kasuboski has 3 TD’s on the ground and the only passing TD reception from QB Keenan Rahn.

Winnebago Lutheran at Mayville

Winnebago Lutheran (2-0, 0-0) will have an early season conference test as they travel to Mayville (1-1, 0-0) WLA with a week 1 shutout win at Kettle Moraine Lutheran and a week 2 convincing win at home against Chilton 41-7. QB Sam Loehr last week was 5-7 for 113 yards and a TD pass. A dominating rush game for WLA helped in the victory. Jack Karest lead the Vikings with 8 carries for 71 yards and a pair of TD’s. Meanwhile Noah Schumacher chipped in a TD with 10 carries on 58 yards. The Mayville Cardinals are replacing some skilled players that graduated and have started the season a little slow losing in week 1 to Cedar-Grove Belgium 24-13. Last week they played Horicon/Hustisford and got down early 16-7 before making the comeback in route to a 38-26 win. Senior running back Payton Borchardt (161 yards) and Junior running back Sawyer Hardesty (134 yards) combined for nearly 300 yards on the ground for Mayville.

Laconia at Lomira

Lomira (1-1, 0-0) comes off a dominating offense performance last week in which they ran for 342 yards with 175 yards coming from Tyler Schaumberg. They play host to the Laconia Spartans (2-0, 0-0) who enters conference play after two impressive non-conference wins to start the season. Laconia has outscored there opponents in two games 56-13. They’ve had 350 yards on the ground in two games led by running back Jack Rens.

Campbellsport at North Fond du Lac

After ending a 53 game losing streak last week in Ripon the North Fond du Lac Orioles (1-1, 0-0) look to start a winning streak when they play host to a very difficult Campbellsport Cougars team. Connor Groll led North Fond du Lac in receiving last week with yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Zach Seidschlag leads the conference in passing yards with 350 through two games. Cambellsport (2-0, 0-0) has maybe been the most impressive team in the area to start the season. Ben Timm leads a ground attack with 460 yards, tops in the Flyway conference. Last week Timm ran for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns.
