>>Badgers Sophomore QB Mertz Confident He Can Step in For Coan
(Madison, WI) — Redshirt freshman Graham Mertz will likely be under center when the Badgers open the Big Ten season against Illinois two weeks from today (Saturday). Mertz has been taking the first-team snaps since senior quarterback Jack Coan went down with a foot injury. Mertz says he’s trying to learn as much information as he can as he prepares to lead number-16 Wisconsin against the Illini at Camp Randall Stadium October 24th. UW quarterbacks coach Jon Budmayr says he’s seen Mertz grow mentally over the last year and attack his preparation like he’s a starter since he first arrived on campus. Mertz said, “I think right now, I’m very confident in my ability to win games here.” His parents won’t be able to attend his first career start due to a recent spike in COVID cases. U-W puts it policy to allow players’ family members in the stadium on hold.
>> Packers RB Jamal Williams Making Big Contributions
(Green Bay, WI) — Packers starting running back Aaron Jones gets a lot of the attention – but Jamaal Williams is also contributing to the team’s ground game. Williams had 42 carries for 227 yards during Green Bay’s 4-and-0 start. Coach Matt LaFleur says Jamaal “can stick his foot in the ground and make you miss, he’s doing a great job of pressing and cutting, and then he’s finishing violently.” Aaron Rodgers says he’s impressed with the way Williams does the less-than-glamorous things in the offense – especially blitz pickups on third down. Williams had eight receptions for 95 yards in Monday’s win over Atlanta. He’s in the final year of his rookie contract – just like Jones.
>>Some Packers Fans Heading to Road Games That Allow Fans
(Undated) — With no fans allowed at Lambeau Field so far this season, some Packers fans are hitting the road to watch the Green and Gold. Secondary market sites have tickets for Green Bay’s upcoming games at Tampa Bay, Houston and Indianapolis which have limited capacity in their stadiums. Seats to see Aaron Rodgers take on Tom Brady October 18th in Florida are going for an average of 300 dollars. Tickets to see the Pack play the 0-and-4 Texans October 25th start at 114 dollars. The Colts are expected to allow more than 12-thousand fans this weekend in Lucas Oil Stadium and Green Bay plays there November 22nd.
