Sports Headlines:
>>Wisconsin Athletics Not Ready To Cut A Sports Program
(Madison, WI) — Even though the cancellation of fall sports will cost the University of Wisconsin 100 million dollars in revenue, no sports programs are on the chopping block yet. Athletic Director Barry Alvarez says that hasn’t been discussed. Football, volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country have been shut down. The department has a reserve fund, but it’s not big enough to cover the loss of a full year of revenue. That means some layoffs of U-W employees are coming. At least 21 NCAA Division One programs are planning to eliminate some sports.
>>Packers Sign Another Free Agent WR Malik Turner
(Green Bay, WI) — The Green Bay Packers are signing another free agent wide receiver. The NFL Network is reporting former Seattle Seahawks pass-catcher Malik Turner’s signing means the Packers could have as many as 11 wide receivers on the roster when the first training camp practice is held. It is possible a wide receiver will be cut to make room for Turner. He caught 15 passes last season for 245 yards and one touchdown, making three starts in the 15 games when he appeared.
>>Antetokounmpo’s Headbutt Earns Him 1-Game Suspension
(Lake Buena Vista, FL) — The NBA has suspended Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo one game for headbutting an opponent Tuesday. Antetokounmpo didn’t like a charging call Washington Wizards center Moritz Wagner earned and he butted Wagner during a stoppage in play. That means he will be sidelined this afternoon (Thursday) when the Bucks wrap up their seeding games with a contest against Memphis. The Grizzlies have a one-and-six record since NBA play resumed and they need a win and some help from other teams to keep playing in the postseason.
