Girls Volleyball: 

Laconia won the New Holstein tournament on Saturday. The Spartans defeated Tri-County (25-14, 25-10), New Holstein (25-17, 22-25, 15-10) and New Holstein again (25-15, 25-11). The Spartans improve to 19-1 on the season with the tournament win.

Winnebago Lutheran went 1-3 at the Lutheran Invitational at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee on Saturday. The Vikings defeated Manitowoc Lutheran (23-25, 25-17, 15-13) and lost to Watertown Luther Prep (25-19, 25-21), Illinois Lutheran (26-24, 25-18) and Fox Valley Lutheran (25-17, 25-10)

Lomira went 3-1 at their home tournament on Saturday. The Lions picked up wins over Oakfield (21-25, 25-17, 15-3), Cambria-Friesland (25-13, 14-25, 17-15) and Horicon (21-25, 25-17, 16-14) and lost to Valley Christian (26-24, 25-9).

–On a day when the Badgers managed to score just one touchdown on offense, the defense stepped up, scoring two touchdowns as Wisconsin held off Northwestern at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday. Jonathan Taylor scored on a 13 yard run to put the Badgers up in the first quarter – but Wisconsin led just 7-3 at halftime. Matt Henningsen recovered a fumble in the end zone in the third quarter and Noah Burks scored on a 68-yard pick-six early in the fourth quarter to make it 24-3. Northwestern scored twice in the fourth quarter, but failed on both two-point conversion attempts. Wisconsin improves to 4-0 overall and is 2-0 in the Big Ten, they host Kent State in non-conference play next Saturday.

–Trevor Story hit a walk-off home run to right field off of Matt Albers as the Rockies took down the Brewers for the second night in a row at Coors Field. Story’s longball was the third in-a-row for the Rockies in the late innings – as Colorado got a solo home run in the eighth, ninth and tenth innings. Sam Hilliard’s homer off of Josh Hader in the ninth tied the game at two to force extras. The Brewers need a win tomorrow and a Cardinals loss to force a “Game 163” in St. Louis on Monday. A loss by the Brewers will send them to Tuesday’s Wild Card game in Washington. Adrian Houser starts the regular season finale for Milwaukee against Jeff Hoffman for Colorado.
