Law enforcement speed enforcement campaign planned for Wednesday

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is joining agencies across the Midwest Wednesday, July 31, 2024, for a special speed enforcement campaign, working to stop drivers who are speeding on Wisconsin roads.

They say the goal of Speed Awareness Day is to educate the community on the dangers of speeding and save lives.

Statistics released by the department show more than 12,000 people were killed nationwide in speed-related crashes in 2022. While drivers of all ages are represented in speeding-related crashes, data shows about a quarter of drivers 18-44 involved in fatal crashes were speeding, and young men are the most likely to be speeding at the time of fatal crashes. In 2022, 67% of male drivers 15 to 24 were involved in speed related fatal crashes.
