Local Boy Scouts Awarded for Heroic Action After Train Crash

22 Appleton area Boy Scouts will be awarded Heroism Awards on October 18 at Lambeau Field for their courageous action during a train derailment they were involved in.
The award will be handed out during the Bay-Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America’s – 5th Annual Golden Eagle Event in the Lambeau Field Atrium at 5:30 p.m.
The program will include the heroic story of 22 Scouts from Appleton, WI Troop 12 & 73 who were on a cross-country train trip returning from Philmont Scout Ranch in New
Mexico this June when their train crashed and derailed outside of Mendon, Missouri, killing 4 and injuring hundreds.
In the chaos the scouts exemplified the Scout’ motto of “Be Prepared” as they assisted the wounded and helped first responders rescue people from the train wreckage.
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones will be a guest speaker at this years event.
