Local community leaders speak about Charlie Kirk assassination

Just hours after hearing the tragic news of Charlie Kirk being shot at an event he was holding in Utah, local community leaders have begun to speak out about the horrific event.

Congressman Glen Grothman:

Heartbroken by the loss of Charlie Kirk. Political violence has no place in America. We can disagree without resorting to hatred or harm. My prayers are with his family as we remember Charlie, a hardworking young man and devoted father.

State Senator Dan Feyen:

“My heart goes out to Charlie Kirk’s loved ones. The principle of freedom of speech is deeply ingrained in America’s foundation. There is zero tolerance for political violence in our country. The cessation of this violence is imperative. It is crucial that individuals from all points on the political spectrum engage in calm and respectful conversations, fostering a culture of peaceful debate. I pray for our country!”

Governor Tony Evers:

“Violence against anyone because of their political beliefs is wrong. Violence against others is wrong. Violence is never the answer for resolving our differences or disagreements. Wisconsin joins in praying for Charlie Kirk and the Utah Valley community and first responders.”

Fond du Lac County Executive Sam Kaufman:

My prayers and condolences to the family of Charlie Kirk.

Daniel Degner President of Wisconsin family action and Wisconsin Family Council:

“Charlie has been a friend of our ministry and will be greatly missed. Charlie would often come to our LEAD Wisconsin biblical worldview camp. Our young people looked forward to seeing Charlie each year. For many campers the highlight of the week was when they got to personally meet Charlie and get their picture with him. Charlie was also a man that cared about his family. Charlie told our campers about the importance of family and shared how he would unplug from his phone each week to spend a sabbath day with his wife and children. I’ll never forget when a young lady asked Charlie “how can we combat human trafficking?” Charlie immediately chimed back for our young men “stop watching pornography.” His chastisement led multiple young men to repent from their sin and usage of pornography. I will remember Charlie for his partnership, wit, smile, and faith. As I looked through photos of Charlie from our camp yesterday, I appreciated the testament of this photo with our President Emeritus, Julaine Appling. As I reflected on this picture, I was reminded that through their partnership many young people were transformed at LEAD Wisconsin. Many on all sides of the political spectrum will have much to blame for this tragedy. As I reflect on this tragic incident, I am reminded of the spiritual problems we have in our state and nation. Our nation needs Jesus now more than ever before. Please pray for revival in our land. Through my personal conversations with Charlie, I could see that he had heart for the gospel. He truly believed that transformation happens when people come to a saving faith and knowledge in Christ. On Saturday, Charlie Kirk posted on X, “Jesus defeated death so you can live.” Charlie had no idea about what would happen this week. Even now, as Charlie is no longer with us on earth, he is alive with Christ. Because Jesus defeated death and Charlie placed his faith in Christ. Please join us in praying for Charlie’s family and our friends at Turning Point USA during this tragic time.”
