Local firefighters save house from attached garage fire on Highway 23

At 7:49 AM Tuesday morning, March 4, 2024, officers with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and the Lamartine Fire Department were dispatched to the corner of Highway 23 and Karst Road for a report of smoke coming from a garage that was attached to a house.
Automatic mutual aid went out for the Rosendale, Town of Fond du Lac, and City of Fond du Lac Fire Departments as well as North Fond du Lac Ambulance.
Upon arrival, crews were met with smoke coming from the garage.
While fire crews attacked the fire, a Fond du Lac County Sheriff deputy was seen assisting the home owner and 2 dogs out of the house and to a nearby squad car to stay warm.
Within 20 minutes, the fire was under control with what appeared to be minimal fire damage to the house portion of the building.
Through investigation it was determined the fire is believed to have started along the north wall of the garage as the homeowner was charging multiple lithium ion batteries for remote-controlled vehicles. The fire is not considered suspicious and no injuries occurred to anyone during the incident.
